How to choose a Funeral Director

Things to consider when choosing the right Funeral Director

Frequently asked Questions

Choosing a funeral director can be difficult and is not something that we all have experience with. Not all funeral directors are the same and you should be certain that you have all the facts before you appoint someone. With that in mind, we’ve tried to make the process a little easier by putting together a list of questions you might want to ask before you make your choice…

Are you a local, independently owned business or part of a large group?

We are entirely privately owned and run. We are in no way connected with any other business.

Are you a member of any professional trade associations? If so, who?

We are members of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors. We are required to abide by their strict code of conduct.

How long have you been established as a business?

We were established in February 2008.

How many branches do you have?

We have only one branch. We believe that this helps us to focus on quality of service, care and attention provided.

Are your staff full time employees and how many do you have?

We employ 8 full time and 8 part time personnel.

Do you own your own vehicles?

We own and run a fleet of modern-classic Daimlers.

What happens if my loved one dies outside of normal business hours?

Our team are available to help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Where will my loved one be kept leading up to the funeral?

We will look after your loved one here on our premises at Park Green House, where we have a modern and fully equipped mortuary and Chapels of Rest.

Where is your mortuary located?

Our mortuary is located on-site, here at Park Green House.

Do you offer embalming?

Yes, our embalmer is a qualified member of the British Institute of Embalmers. We do not insist upon embalming, however it is usually recommended if you wish to view your loved one.

Am I able to visit my loved one?

Yes, you are welcome to visit your loved one in our Chapel of Rest by appointment.

Can my loved one be dressed in their own clothing if we wish?

Yes. Please provide us with a full set of clothing including undergarments. We are also able to dress your loved one in a satin robe that we would supply, if you prefer.

Are you able to arrange a funeral at my home or do we have to meet in your office?

Yes, although it is probably more helpful for you to visit us here at Park Green House, where you can get a better sense of our business, facilities, staff and the way we operate.

Is it possible for ladies to be dressed and prepared by ladies and men by men?

Yes, we will respect your wishes on this matter wherever possible.

Are you able to provide an itemised estimate of funeral expenses before I appoint you?

Yes, we will be able to provide you with an itemised estimate, although some of the disbursements (third party costs) may require confirmation.

Do we have to have a traditional funeral service?

Not at all, we aim to be as flexible as possible in what we offer. We are happy to accommodate your wishes and we are open to any unusual or unconventional requests.

Do we have to use your services for all aspects of the funeral?

No you don’t. If for example you wish to use your own car or provide your own coffin, then we are happy to work alongside you to incorporate these into the service.

Are you able to arrange for a non-religious celebrant to perform the service?

Yes, we work with several local Humanist Celebrants or Celebrants who are able to conduct non-religious services.

Is it possible for the funeral to start from my home?

Yes, our Bespoke Funerals are tailored precisely according to your wishes.

Do you provide pall bearers?

We do provide pall bearers, although if you would prefer for family or friends to shoulder the coffin then we will provide the necessary help and guidance to make this possible.
